What if you don’t have the typical three-syllabled Korean name? You can either choose a Korean name for yourself or break down your birth name into syllables. If your full name is super long, just use your first name. For example, Jennifer becomes 제니퍼 (jae ni puh). Michael becomes 마이클 (ma ee keul).

State your phone number using Sino Korean number system.

The hostess will repeat your reservation, confirming the date, time and number of people. Remember to be polite and thank them.

But let’s say the restaurant has limited openings. Then what?

YOU:  내일 한시 예약되나요?

HOSTESS: 죄송하지만 1시엔 자리가 없고요, 2시는 가능합니다.

There comes a time when you need to change your reservation. What do you say?

YOU: 예약 바꿀 수 있나요?

May I change the reservation?

Wanna change the number of people? Then say this…

YOU: 열명으로 바꿔주세요.
Yeolmyungeuro baggyojusaeyo.
Please change it to ten people.

다섯명으로 바꿔주세요.
Daseotmyungeuro baggyojusaeyo.  
Please change it to five people.

Just replace the number before MYUNG. Make sure it’s a Native Korean number.
